Climate Change is a pressing concern that existed well before the presence of the #Covid_19 pandemic. It has raised eyebrows, blood pressures and created a gulf between science and non-science communities worldwide.
The pandemic with its corresponding global response has seen the halting of entire value chains and the inconceivable closure of entire sectors of society such as in Tourism and Transport.
The result is that in just two - three months, the environment has shown clear indicators of recovery such as the clear waters and fish in Venice waterways. Cities have also reported logically, cleared air levels that is sure to please many sufferers of respiratory illnesses such as asthma.
Sadly, some things never changes such as the ability of humans to be selfish and dispose of their waste irresponsibly. UNCTAD reported on their website the accumulation of face masks disposed of irresponsibly and that some cities in a quest to reduce contact, suspending needed recycling programs, increasing waste streams to landfills and the likes.
Their report as with ours, pointed out that life has changed. Public transport and air travel suspended, cities in various levels of lockdown or restricted movement and reduced demand for fuels. What is clear is that human activity has a direct link to the quality and impact of our environment.
