Just the seeing the words #loadshedding in Southern #Africa brings dread and disappointment to all. The level of disruption that it brings is sure to impact #growth and #investment targets. South Africa has now reverted to load shedding and as the largest economy in SADC, its impact will be felt immediately.
Another angle.
Bear in mind however that we still have staggering numbers of our fellow citizens that have NO #access to #electricity or modern #energy services. For them, the load shedding will have a different meaning and so I ask us who are on the grid to start thinking about our use and options going forward in regards to urgent #energyefficiency and #renewableenergy utilization to avoid disruptions.
What can be done
Faster roll out of #solar #wind and #hybrid resources would be a first step along with solar driven #water pumping #streetlighting #thermal services etc that can immediately have a demand impact both day and night on the regional grid.
